Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in any of the opportunities below, please contact the office at info@nwsids.org or 206-548-9290. If there are no current opportunities, we can add you to the volunteer mailing list to be notified as soon as volunteers are needed.

Grief Companions
Right now we are in need of "Grief Companions." Grief companions are parents or grandparents who have experienced a sudden infant death in the past and would like to help others through the grieving and healing process. Grief companions are paired with someone who has recently lost a baby to talk over the phone or e-mail, meet in person if desired, and just be there as a shoulder to cry on. We will be conducting a training in the next few months for new volunteers.

Speakers Bureau
Volunteers in the speakers bureau are individuals with a personal or professional interest in speaking about sudden infant death and spreading information about safe sleep practices. Volunteers can speak at events such as high school health classes, new parent or pregnancy groups, etc.

Annual Dinner and Auction
We are in need of attractive items for the silent and live auctions portion of our annual fundraiser. If you have any personal or business connections that would be willing to donate items or experiences (examples in past include: riding around in a fire truck for the day, lessons of some kind, a special tour of something, stay at a nice hotel, etc.) please let us know.

Special Events
In addition to the annual dinner and auction, NISSA puts on a handful of special events every year to help raise awareness and funds for bereavement support, risk reduction, and research. Past events have included Concert for a Cause, Motorcycle Poker Run, Bowl-a-thon, and golf tournaments. Volunteers might be needed to help run these special events. Individuals can also put on their own special events (party, car wash, raffle, dinner, etc.), collect ink cartridges or used cell phones for charity, or conduct other fundraisers and donate the proceeds to NISSA.

Eastern Washington
Additionally, our branch office in Spokane runs various fundraising events throughout the year, with the largest event being the Fallen Leaf Run held every October. Contact Laura Martini at ewbo@nwsids.org or 509-456-0505 for possible volunteer opportunities in the Spokane area.
